YHWH & His Failed Prophecy Of Tyre !!!

YHWH & His Failed Prophecy Of Tyre

In Ezekiel, God prophecies Nebuchadnezzar will utterly and completely destroy Tyre. He describes this thoroughly. It is not a one sentence prophecy that can be misinterpreted:
Eze 26:7 For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring upon Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon…

Eze 26:8 He shall slay with the sword thy daughters in the field…

Eze 26:11 With the hoofs of his horses shall he tread down all thy streets: he shall slay thy people by the sword, and thy strong garrisons shall go down to the ground.

Eze 26:14 And I will make thee like the top of a rock: thou shalt be a place to spread nets upon; thou shalt be built no more

Eze 26:21 I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD.
And this is what actually happened:

Eze 29:18 Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: every head was made bald, and every shoulder was peeled: yet had he no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it:

Eze 29:19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army.

Ezekiel was writing, in 587 BCE, at the time when Nebuchadnezzar was laying siege on Tyre. With such a powerful army like Nebuchadnezzar’s, it was not surprising that Ezekiel prophesied the fall of Tyre to the Babylonian king.

The whole passage clearly prophesied complete destruction of Tyre by Nebuchadnezzar. However, the vivid description of the fall of Tyre never happened. After a siege of thirteen years, until 573BC , Nebuchadnezzar lifted his siege on Tyre and had to arrive at a compromised agreement.

The mainland city was destroyed in 573, but the city of Tyre on the island remained a powerful city for several hundred years.  Furthermore it is obvious from the passage in Ezekiel that the complete destruction of Tyre by Nebuchadnezzar was prophesised.
But their city remained unharmed. Ezekiel even admits in 29:17-18 when he says that Nebuchadnezzar got nothing in his efforts against Tyre.

Prophesying that Tyre would be gone forever is an immensely bold claim, that unfortunately never happened and is still a thriving city of more than 120,000 inhabitants today.

G-d never gives any indication why this prophecy failed. G-d, unlike modern Christians, is not all worried  about every prophecy coming true always. Things change, variables change. With them, prophecy changes.

This is a concept completely Alien to Bible. To them, G-d knows no failure. A failed prophecy, especially one not made conditionally or without any reason given for the failure, breaks their system. Why would G-d prophecy something he knew to be false, except if he is a liar!!

  1. This prophecy was fulfilled, the prophecy was on ancient Tyre, the Tyre of Ezikels days was conquered by Babylon and changed, so the prophecy was fulfilled.
